What is a bootable USB

What is a bootable USB?

With this type of USB you can start your computer from the directly. Typically it is a USB to boot Windows with the PC if it does as it should.

Check two things:
• The USB must have at least 4 GB.
• Copy the contents to another site BEFORE you follow these steps. Doing "bootable" erase everything you have on it.

Create USB Windows (almost) automatic

Works with Windows 7, XP, Vista, Windows 8 and 8.1. It is the ideal way if you have an ISO image of Windows that is yours or CD installation.

There are two options. Both are free.
• Use the official Microsoft program. Their advantage is making a checkup before creating the USB to check that the Windows it has not been changed. It also allows you to create a bootable Windows CD.

• Use the program Rufus. Choose this if the other will not work. Rufus does practically forever. With any Windows and even if it is modified.

Create the USB manually

It serves only to create a USB Windows 7. It is a good choice in that case and if you want to download any software to do so.

1. Connect the USB to your PC.

2 . Enters the Windows Start menu. Type cmd in the search field and type the shortcut Ctrl + Shift (Shift) + Enter.

NOTE : Another option is to go to Start -> All Programs - > Accessories, right- click button on Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator.

3 . Confirms if you notice window appears. An MS -DOS session (a window of black background and white font) opens.

4 . In MS -DOS you have to now write a series of "commands". Right in the order in which I put.

Do not forget to press Enter on your keyboard after each command :

diskpart
After introducing expected to appear in the text window DISKPART > before typing the following command.

list disk
This shows your PC disks , including USB . They are named as " Disk 0 ", " Disc 1 " etc.

Locate which one is the USB fijándote in the indicated size of each disk and comparing it to the USB.

IMPORTANT :
Make no doubt what the USB. If you choose the wrong disk will erase all data in the following steps.

select disk [number]
The number corresponds to the USB which you saw in the above list . The example is the " Disk 1 " . The command in this case would be select disk 1.

clean
create partition primary
select partition 1
active
format fs = ntfs

Formatting progress is indicated by a percentage. It will be faster or slower depending on the case. Typically it takes several minutes. Wait till you get to 100 % before continuing.

assign
exit

Makes you exit DiskPart.

exit

To log out of MS- DOS.

To use the USB in practice created by hand you have to do two more things :

Copy to USB the program that is.
For example the Windows installation files. Or the antivirus program, repair or other that you want to boot the PC.

If you have a Windows CD copy the entire contents into the PC USB by having a known CD. If you have a Windows ISO , unzip before using WinRAR. Then copy everything in the USB.

Configure the PC to boot from the USB.

Advantages of a bootable CD

The USB does the same but has two distinct advantages:

Fits or PCs with no CD. Fewer laptops (PC or even fixed) include a CD.
Without it you can not use a bootable CD. But all PCs have at least one USB connector. That can always start with a bootable USB.

It is easier and faster to create a USB.
No need to install payment programs or have much knowledge of computers. Anyone can do it.
